Sankat Mochan Samiti - many Community welfare initiatives

Sankat Mochan Samiti (“SMS”) was incorporated in the year 2008 . At present the association has following places of gathering and carrying out the association’s activities. 

SMS currently operates through Sankat Mochan Kendra and a work in progress project location we call as Sankat Mochan Indian Cultural Centre(SMICC).

We have established a few branches and sub groups with specific terms of references to focus on their respective activities . These include 

  • Sankat Mochan Youth Group(“SMYG“) , 
  • Sankat Mochan Seniors Group(“SMSG“) and 
  • HUM TUM – Respectful Relationships(“HUM TUM”). 

All these branches operate on the guidance of the SMS Executive Committee of Management (“SMS ECM”) and report into ‘SMS ECM’ for all purposes.

SMS signed a Memorandum of Understanding with InTouch Multicultural Centre In 2011 against Family Violence as Partner Agency for the project ‘CALD Communities leading the way to respectful relationships: A community engagement initiative to prevent Family violence in Victoria’ funded by FaHCSIA.

 

Sankat Mochan Samiti (“SMS”) launched the “HUM TUM-Respectful relationships” (“HUM TUM”) as a subgroup in 2012 to address family violence issues and support victims of family violence.

The association will promote and foster educational aspect of cultural heritage to support and work with its younger generation. Newly arrived individuals & families and also senior members for better understanding of values and beliefs and to live harmoniously in the multicultural environment in Australia.

Long Term Goal

To facilitate and promote SMS activities there is a need to establis SANKAT MOCHAN KENDRA (Centre)

Activities

To achieve its objective SMS will be involved in the following activities:-

  • Raise awareness of cultural beliefs and values by organising:
  • “Shri Sankat Mochan Mohotsava” : Grand Celebration for Blissful Universal Peace Prayers – Annual Event
  • Mass participatory recitations of peace prayers, and similar cultural activities to celebrate festivals and special occasions.
  • Work with other community groups and organisations to achieve objectives for peace and harmony.
  • Enhancing the understanding of Indian Culture among other communities
  • Working towards helping people involved in ‘Domestic Violence’
  • Give recognition to members of community for their contribution and celebrate achievement of individuals.
  • Organise fund raising activities for special community and social welfare projects and charitable events.
  • Work towards establishing Sankat Mochan Kendra (Sankat Mochan Centre) to facilitate the activities of SMS.
  • Any other activities consistent with our mission
